Mark Machin, Information Systems Division Director, LogicaCMG.
With more than 40 years experience in IT services, LogicaCMG has an impressive, worldwide client base of blue-chip organisations. It is committed to offering a highly efficient service to clients, and decided it needed to step up its vital print capability.
Mixed bag
“We had a fleet of 120 digital copiers - some of which were leased and some we had taken over from mergers with other companies,” said Mark Machin, Information Systems Division director with LogicaCMG. “They were a mixed bag and when the leases came up for renewal, rather than do a refresh we decided to go out into the market and see what was available.”
Following a tender process, LogicaCMG chose an HP Total Print Management (TPM) solution and 203 devices were rolled out to more than 20 UK offices.
Balanced deployment
Seventy per cent of the new fleet are HP LaserJet 4345mfp multifunction printers that print, copy, scan-to-email and fax and the rest are HP LaserJet 9050 A3printers. They are on a three-year lease cycle with the aim to reduce LogicaCMG’s previous 48 hour response time to just four hours.
“Our relationship with HP and its partner, Basilica, was very progressive,” added Machin. “Other suppliers just came in and gave us the spec of the hardware while HP and Basilica really helped us understand where we were. They gave us the tools and directions to get better information about our print and copy infrastructure and a better understanding of our internal costs.
“Basilica surveyed every site, producing page counts on each device and a recommended layout for each office.
Significant savingsOne feature of the HP LaserJet 4345mfp that has been applauded by users is the scan-to-email function.
During the first three months after implementation there were 250,000 scans for things like authorisations and sign-offs, resulting in increased efficiency and significant savings on internal post.
“By doing this massive rollout, we have managed to save hundreds of thousands of pounds very quickly,” added Machin. “The balanced deployment suggested by HP and Basilica has enabled us to reduce the number of devices by some 30 per cent which also saves on consumables.”
“The service from HP and Basilica lived up to all expectations with excellent feedback from users and an approximate saving of 25 per cent on our overall print/copy costs.”
